Aireene Espiritu

While browsing through the aisles of a local bookstore over 15 years ago, Aireene randomly pulled "The Land Where the Blues Began" by folklorist Alan Lomax and has since become drawn to stories from the South...delta blues...songs that go way back...deep...songs born of emotion that tell stories of hardship, happiness and of words to pass the time. She picked up a guitar to learn songs by the likes of Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Etta James, Nina Simone, Odetta, and field recordings by Alan Lomax. These were the tools that laid the grounds for writing her songs.
